The Greens coach, Irishman Roddy Collins had to makeshift his team having Briffa and Anonam suspended and Caruana, Cassar and Eboh missing once again through injury.In fact they only fielded 5 substitutes from a possible 7.

Stephen Azzopardi did not have any such worries though he preferred to leave Dronca and Ciantar on the bench.

Sliema made ther intentions clear right from the start and in the 10th minute it was Mifsud Triganza who when faced with only Paris to beat his shot was turned onto a corner by the Greens custodian.

Four minutes later and it was again the Blues on the offensive once again with Ryan Fenech’s shot just missed the target.

Nearing the half hour mark off a Clifton Ciantar cross came Floriana’s first real attack with Wasiu anticipating Agius only for his headed effort finishing on the roof of the net.

In the 33rd minute the Greens threatened once again this time off a Luke Agius cross Ryan Darmanin’s low drive was easy for Agius to save.

And five minutes from the end of the first half a Clifton Ciantar shot from the left flank hit the side of the net.

On the restart Sliema went near in the 51st minute when a Ryan Fenech cross forced Paris into a difficult save with the ball hitting the woodwork in the process but Muscat’s shot from the six yard box sailed out.

In the 57th minute Turner found Mifsud Triganza the latters shot stopped by Paris. And the Blues kept piling on the pressure with Mifsud Triganza making the best out of an error by Said but when he was about to shoot he was blocked by an onrushing Bugeja.

The deadlock was broken fifteen minutes from the end of the match when JEAN PIERRE MIFSUD TRIGANZA received a long ball and with only Paris to beat slotted the ball home.

During the goal celebrations Clifford Gatt Balacchino was given the marching orders for apparently gesticulating in the Floriana supporters direction.

The Blues joy was short lived since two minutes later Floriana drew level through WASIU. And five minutes from time Wasiu was again in the thick of action when his shot from the edge of the area scrambled just past the upright.
