Air Malta flights to London have been disrupted by what BBC is calling London’s heaviest snowfall in 18 years.
Snow has forced Heathrow Airport to shut down both its runways. The whole of the city’s transport network has been crippled. Bus services, and even a number of underground lines have been suspended, while schools were shut down as the city was brought to a standstill.
Air Malta’s Monday morning flight to Heathrow, KM 100, was set to depart at 0750h, but its departure was delayed to 1330h.
Air Malta’s flight from Gatwick, which is around 45 km south of London, was delayed by around 2 hours but has now landed, CEO Joe Cappello told di-ve.com
Mr Cappello said that it appeared that evening flights from London would be around 5 hours late. An Air Malta flight from Heathrow was originally scheduled to land at 1535h, while a British Airways flight, codeshared with Air Malta, from Gatwick was scheduled for a 1635h landing.
The airline has also cancelled its Monday afternoon flight to Heathrow.
