The crew on board the ship, who were all Russians, said they were tied up and tortured, have returned home. These were replaced by a relief crew. Eight men were charged with hijacking the ship and are awaiting trial in Moscow. These are mostly Estonians.
At first the ship was believed to be carrying weapons or radioactive material, but these reports were denied by Russia. Local authorities said nothing dangerous was found on board the ship during its stop in Malta.
