'We also thank Joe Borg for his services as EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs. Whilst we did not agree with all his decisions as Commissioner, particularly his lack of tough stances against overfishing of the near extinct blue-fin tuna, we recognise his achievements in the sector, which is dominated by powerful big-business lobbies'.

Arnold Cassola, AD Spokesperson on EU and International Affairs, added: "An EU commissioner has an influential role in shaping the future policies of the EU. AD is convinced that Maltese Commissioners should continue making the best of this important role and work towards a better quality of life for all Maltese, Gozitan and EU citizens".
