The event was opened by the President of Malta, Dr Abela who expressed a need for solidarity and support for organisations like Inspire that are supporting the Maltese and Gozitan communities. Other VIPs attended the event to show support for the organisation. Dr Muscat, leader of the Opposition recorded a clip during a recent visit to Inspire, reflecting on the experience that the 2 organisations now pool into one service.![]()
The event was closed by the Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi and Mrs Gonzi, who despite having a busy pre-budget schedule, made the time for this event. Dr Gonzi praised the organisers for the sterling work they are doing in the community, and the generosity of the Maltese public that keeps such organisations alive.
Other personalities including MPs, Mrs Janatha Stubbs, local singers, presenters and artists showed their support by organising events and participating live in studio, under the technical direction of the One TV crew. Moira Delia ably presented throughout the marathon event with the energetic support of Stephanie Spiteri and Alfred Zammit. The 3 presenters rallied all the viewers to support and helped raise the sum of €110,607.
The Vodafone Malta Foundation was the largest single contributor to the event with Her Excellency Ms Louise Stanton, British High Commissioner presenting a cheque of €35,000 on behalf of the Foundation. A number of other companies, including Inspire staff organised their own fundraising activities and presented them to the organisation.
Nathan Farrugia, CEO of Inspire, was pleased with the funds raised. The funds will go towards the educational and therapeutic services and programmes that help over 1000 children and adults with different abilities. The Event aired clips showing examples of how the funds were used, with messages from the parents and beneficiaries themselves.
“The event was more than a fundraising exercise. Through the clips and the on stage discussions, we had an opportunity to show how Inspire is now benefitting the community in a definitive and positive way. We bring 38 years of experience to this sector but now, as one organisation, we look forward to making a difference and supporting people to reach their fullest potential as Inspire!”, Farrugia said.
Inspire will continue to raise the much needed funds over Christmas. Currently an art exhibition in aid of the organisation is being held at St James Cavallier. The ever-popular Enchanting Forest is also due in December, down at Inspire’s Marsaskala Centre (Razzett tal-Hbiberija). For more information on Inspire or to donate, visit www.inspire.org.mt
