Bank of Valletta is the first bank in Malta to offer prepaid cards.

“We are delighted to announce the launch of these new, versatile cards with global acceptance – the BOV MasterCard Prepaid cards,” said Michael Galea, executive head responsible for cards business at Bank of Valletta.

“Indeed, this initiative constitutes another first from Bank of Valletta that consolidates our position as the premier provider of card services in Malta,” he added.

The BOV MasterCard Prepaid Card provides versatility, convenience and ease of use while shopping over the Internet, settling bills online and paying for goods and services worldwide. It can also be used as a travel card and offers the user control, ease of use, confidentiality and security.

Prepaid Cards are payment cards that are pre-loaded with a fixed sum of money. When a prepaid card is used, the money is deducted from the amount originally loaded onto the card, unlike a debit card or a credit card where the money is taken from a bank account or a line of credit. The BOV MasterCard Prepaid Cards come in 3 denominations - €50, €75 and €100.

Cardholders can check their card balance by inserting the BOV MasterCard Prepaid Card into any BOV ATM and the card balance will be displayed on screen. The cardholder can also call BOV’s Customer Services Centre on 21 234 821 and quote the card number to check the card balance.
