MIA follows positive trend
Malta International Airport has registered a 4.2% increase in passenger movements for the month of February when compared to the same month last year.
The increase amounts to an all-time record of 176,818 passengers for the second month of the year with a total seat capacity of 249,144 seats booked. The average seat load factor grew by 1.8% in this same month, reaching a record 71%.
The United Kingdom remained the top country of origin with an increase of 7.4% over the same period last year. Italy ranked one step higher and secured the second largest market for February, with a considerable increase of 16.3%. The German market decrease by 5.8% and finished the month in third. On the other hand, France kept its fourth placing. Albeit with a remarkable increase of 19.4%, France did not exchange its fourth place contrary to Libya which shot up to fifth place from eight following an increase of 67.3%
Applying a broader perspective, for the first two months of the year, passenger movements increased by 6.1% with a total of 356,061; whereas aircraft movements increased by 1.6% and seat capacity increased by 3.9%.
In the same period, the average seat load factor registered an increase of 1.4%, the minimum take-off weight (MTOW) increased by 2.8%, whereas cargo and mail were 4.3% higher than same period last year.
