Times of Malta says a prosecutor at the Attorney General’s office has been found dead at a residence on Triq is-Sirk in Swieqi.

Maltatoday has revealed that a prosecutor at the Attorney General’s office has been found dead in his Swieqi home. The report says that his house was ‘turned upside down’, as investigators look into whether foul play was involved.

Arrigo calls for Bernard Grech resignation: The after-effects of the end of Robert Arrigo’s tenure as PN Deputy Leader continued with further bad blood, with the former Sliema MP accusing PN leader Bernard Grech of lying to the public and making his party’s executive “look like idiots”. In a Facebook post, Arrigo also suggested that the Nationalist Party leader should do the honourable thing and resign. In a hard-hitting comment, Arrigo also accused Grech of lying, when earlier this year he said that a report into Naxxar mayor Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami’s conduct had not yet been concluded. “He said the report was not done, when actually it was,” Arrigo, said.

President Vella sees no reason to resign: President George Vella said today that he saw no reason for him to resign despite having moral reservations on the IVF changes approved by parliament. Pressure on Vella had mounted in recent weeks after refusing to sign new legislation allowing pre-implantation genetic testing on embryos for inheritable diseases. Eventually, it was Acting President Frank Bezzina to give his assent to the act last week, just as Vella travelled to Birmingham.“The facts are known by everybody […] there was no need for me to resign, your opinion is subjective,” he said today in the margins of a separate press event.

Aviation fuel tax would be detrimental to economy – Air Malta: Air Malta has described a European proposal to tax aviation fuel as detrimental to Malta’s economy. In a statement today, the airline insisted that such a tax will have a disproportionate and detrimental effect on island states such as Malta who rely almost solely on air connectivity for travel.

PN to propose amendments to Legal Notice implementing Work-Life Balance Directive

The Nationalist Party said that Malta’s implementation of the European Union’s Work-Life Balance directive gives families the least possible rights while putting the financial burden on employer. Legal notice 201 of 2022, amending the Employment and Industrial Relations Act, came into effect on Tuesday, transposing the EU’s Work-Life Balance Directive into national law. The PN noted how there are unnecessary restrictions on paternal and parental leave and wants to see flexibility in view of the different realities families may face. (Times of Malta)

Somali gets suspended sentence following sex act on bus

A 36-year-old Somali construction worker received a suspended sentence after admitting to having committed an uninvited sex act on a female passenger on a crowded bus in July. Mohammed Mahmud Dirie pleaded guilty to ejaculating on a female passenger, a French tourist who happened to be on holiday in Malta. The man’s cooperation with the police, his early guilty plea and his clean criminal record were taken into account by the court in arriving at his punishment. (Maltatoday)
