President’s New Year Concert

If you want to usher the New Year in with style while doing your bit for others, then the annual President’s New Year Concert is sure to start off your 2014 in festive mode.

To be held on Sunday January 5, 2014, for the fifth consecutive year the concert will be held in the magnificent Republic Hall of the Mediterranean Conference Centre. Organised by the President’s Office together with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, all ticket proceeds will go towards the Community Chest Fund.

Directed by Mro Michael Laus, principal conductor of Malta’s national orchestra since 1991, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a programme based around excerpts from opera which will include international and local composers – Stephen Psaila and Charles Camilleri will be performed alongside Smetana and Verdi, Tchaikovsky and Saint Saens. At a time of year when we cast a retrospective look at our lives, the theme will be the passing of time. The televised concert will also broadcast a ballet choreographed by Johane Casabene.

Tickets can be purchased for €5 from the President’s Office at the Palace in Valletta or from San Anton Palace (09.00-16.00h) from Monday to Friday. Tickets can also be purchased from the Mediterranean Conference Centre and Teatru Manoel, Valletta from Monday to Friday 10.00-13.00h and 17.00-19.00h. Ticketing offices will be closed on 24 and 31 December. Opening hours on Saturday are from 10.00 till 13.00h. Tickets will be sold on a first-come first-served basis.
