The Alternattiva Demokratika have opposed the construction of a 54 flat residential complex in San Gwann.

The project will see the demolition of a 'dilapidated' farmhouse on Zbibu Lane and will also include 77 garages, seven penthouses four floors and two basements.

AD candidate Arnold Cassola said: "This proposed development will annihilate the only open space in the area and create an overgrown architectural complex in an area which already lacks open spaces and gardens.

AD Deputy Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo said that there are currently 70,000 vacant dwellings on the island insisting that this development is not required. AD’s Manifesto proposes the immediate halt to large scale residential development together with a reversal of the rationalisation exercise and a reversal of the increase in the permissible height of buildings.
