The Broadcasting Authority did not observe its own directive, Alternattiva Demokratika (AD) Deputy Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo said whilst commenting on a Broadcasting Authority (BA) decision regarding a number of protests submitted by the AD.

Carmel Cacopardo indicated that the Authority’s directive as issued on January 16 states that, “The objective of these rules is that in a debate between leaders or deputy leaders of political parties, these are treated in a similar manner not only in the permissible time but also in the way they are handled by the presenter.”

The AD spokesperson argued that last Wednesday the Broadcasting Authority did not consider anything out of the ordinary regarding the party leader’s debate on Xarabank, even though AD Chairperson Michael Briguglio was allotted less time than the PN and PL leaders.

He argued that this goes against what the BA itself has directed and upheld in the past.
