Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications Austin Gatt's alleged involvement with oil procurement, and the release of certain recordings regarding PL Deputy Leader Toni Abela asking a police officer not to undertake an investigation were the week's hot topics.

The Minister claimed that he was framed by the Labour Party when emails alleging his involvement in the oil procurement case came to light, resulting in a number of Labour candidates suing for defamation.

Later in the week it was uncovered that Minister Gatt had a hidden Swiss bank account, but quickly explained himself on the issue and gave all the details to the police.

Toni Abela quickly denied claims that he had done anything wrong, however a second tape was released later in the week regarding a block "of white powder" being disposed of in one of the Labour Party clubs.

The week also saw a heated debate at the University of Malta between PN Leader Lawrence Gonzi, PL Leader Joseph Muscat and AD Chairperson Michael Briguglio.

The Party ta' l-Ajkla, run by sole candidate Nazzareno Bonnici, held its first political mass meeting in a packed square in Zabbar.
