Gatt claims he was ‘framed’
Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt announced that he filed a police report after the publication of a leaked email linked to the oil scandal story.
He said that it could be a frame up from the Labour Party, where he had come across information which connects three Labout MPs with the subject.
Gatt stated that the emails were likely uncovered during a court case in which Labour candidate David Farrugia Sacco was the defence lawyer for the Farrugia brothers, owners of the John’s Group. This case was against George Farrugia who is the businessman at the heart of the oil scandal.
He added that another Labour candidate, Manuel Mallia, also represented the Farrugia brothers against George Farrugia where he was included in the investigative team which led to the discovery of the emails.
Lastly, he included Labour MP Evarist Bartolo, who Gatt said spread around the last email which was published.
Gatt pointed out that the last email which was published was suspicious as the computer which was used could only be set in Maltese from 2006 onwards, while in this email, from 2004, the date was in Maltese.
PL Reaction
In a meeting with his supporters in Xaghra, Labour leader Joseph Muscat said that Austin Gatt should think on "how to answer the questions" instead of putting a bad light on the Labour Party. He also added that this is the only way that Gatt knows "to defend himself."
