Health Minister slams PL
The opposition party headed by Dr. Joseph Muscat has once again been the way the PL is using the disease of cancer to promote party politics and disproving the PN’s electoral agenda was criticised by Minister of Health, the Elderly and Community Care Joe Cassar.
The Minister held that the PL is using such agenda in a mistaken and impartial manner making reference to the statements made by Opposition spokesman Karmenu Vella during a programme aired on national television.
Joe Cassar held that it is untrue that there is a waiting list for treatment for patients suffering from cancer related illnesses and argued that it depends on the doctors’ decisions and advice when such operations are held and it is not always possible that these are held as soon as the patient expects.
The Minister said that the PL is incorrect and should not be using cancer to disprove and undermine the doctors’ work in the health sector as the patients’ and their families’ pain should not be used for political aims.
“No election should alienate anyone from the true purpose of cancer treatment, that is to ensure that people’s lives, health are not in jeopardy and that people’s dignity is respected,” Minister Joe Cassar concluded.
