Labour leader Joseph Muscat, at a meeting of the Gozo Business Chamber at the Calypso Hotel in Marsalforn, said that an adequate link between Gozo and Malta was important.

He stated that the party knows that Gozo “wants an airstrip but we do not feel this is a priority and instead we will consider a helicopter service and a fast ferry service between Mgarr and Valletta.”

He stated that studies with regards to the creation of a tunnel link between Malta and Gozo should continue.

Muscat said that a Labour government will develop a medical-education market, using the Gozo hospital and a cruise liner terminal at Mgarr.

Michael Grech, president of the chamber, said that Gozo needs different strategies and solutions when compared to those of Malta.

The meeting then continued behind closed doors.
