PL Programme to have Civil Rights chapter
An entire chapter of the Labour Party's Electoral Programme will be dedicated to civil rights, the PL Leader Joseph Muscat announced today whilst addressing members of the LGBT community.
A new Government will see a consultative council, whose first order of business will be to draft a law on civil unions, he explained, ensuring the LGBT community that this council will not replace the current NGO’s. If elected, the PL will appoint someone specifically politically responsible for the decelopment of Civil Rights and equality. Dr Muscat mentioned the law on transgendered people, emphasising that it will be enacted if the PL come to office.
Speaking at the meeting, Malta Gay Rights Movement spokesperson Gaby Calleja expressed that the movement wants same-sex couples to have access to In Vitro Fertilisation.
