In a statement, the Malta Humanist Association said that it sent out a questionnaire by email to the candidates standing for the next general election.

“The questionnaire, which can be filled in online, consisted of thirteen questions on matters of secularism and civil rights, each of which could be answered with a yes/no/other response, together with a longer description of the candidate's stance on the issue.”

The association added that “Although candidates were informed that the results would be placed online on February 9, up to this date only eight candidates have responded - six from Alternattiva Demokratika, one from Alleanza Liberali and one from Partit Laburista. Nobody responded from Partit Nazzjonalista.”

The website containing the results is available on http://www.maltahumanist.org/candidates

Candidates will remain able to respond to the questionnaire, or alter their responses, up until the day before the election.

It concluded by saying that “Although the Malta Humanist Association does not endorse any candidates, we believe that voters should think twice before voting for a candidate who refuses to give his or her stance on such fundamental issues as the ones listed on the questionnaire.”
