Update 2: Second re-count of Gozo’s votes tomorrow
A second recount of the 13th district, Gozo and Comino, is expected to be held tomorrow morning after an alleged discrepancy occurred during the counting of votes. The re-count can only be ordered by the Constitutional Court since the counting of votes had ended.
The PN said this evening that the error occurred during the counting of votes of PN candidate, Paul Buttigieg, rather than the votes of Giovanna Debono as reported earlier by di-ve.com.
The Nationalist Party is understood to have presented an official complaint in court and demanded a second re-count of the votes cast on the 13th district. The first re-count was held earlier today and a third seat was won by Labour candidate Justyne Caruana by a mere nine votes over PN candidate Frederick Azzopardi.
Speaking to di-ve.com, PN Secretary General, Paul Borg Olivier, said that a protest was filed in court this evening asking for their request to be heard with urgency.
Should it transpire that an error was indeed made, Frederick Azzopardi could possibly win the third seat for the Nationalist Party, thus maintaining a long-standing PN stronghold on Gozo albeit by a handful of votes.
There are also rumours of a recount in the 8th district.
