Prime Minister Lwarence Gonzi is hurt and disgusted by the PL Leader’s statement which implied that his son, David Gonzi, is guilty of corruption.

Dr David Gonzi played a similar role to Joe Cordina, in the corruption-hit Italian Maugeri foundation, Dr Muscat said earlier.

Dr Gonzi said that Minister for Finance, the Economy and Investment Tonio Fenech went to the police commissioner this morning and filed a criminal complaint against PL candidates Evarist Bartolo and Chris Cardona, also explaining the ‘gift’ situation to the Commissioner.

The Prime Minister was visiting the Malta Freeport where a €145 million investment had been undertaken over the past few years. He praised the workers, which number close to 1,500, stating that their efforts have encouraged the competitiveness of the Freeport

Evarist Bartolo statement

Sib Ltd, of which Dr David Gonzi was a Secretary, is one of several companies to have been set up by officials of the the Salvatore Maugeri Foundation who have been charged in court in Italy with money laundering, tax evasion and misappropriation of public funds, PL candidate Evarist Bartolo has accused in a statement earlier today.

In fact Sib Ltd is the major shareholder of Sib Laboratories Ltd that was used by the Salvatore Maugeri Foundation to funnel €15 million out of Italy to Malta through the Bank of Valletta, the PL candidate continued. Italian inquiring magistrates said that the Maugeri Foundation used influential persons such as top politicians and their relatives to “open doors” and make it easier for them to conceal their money laundering operations, he said.

Concluding, Evarist Bartolo accused that the PN is attempting to confuse people by giving the impression that Sib Ltd was not implicated in the Maugeri scandal.
