PL Leader Joseph Muscat said that he will now need to see when to convene Parliament, whilst visiting the Naxxar counting hall.

The budget is one of the first things which must be addressed Dr Muscat said, adding that the PL will need to discuss with the PN on this matter. With regards to the Cabinet, Dr Muscat said he will nominate people who would have received a large number of votes and once it is clear what the composition of Parliament will be. He explained that the statement ‘Malta Taghna Lkoll” will be the mission statement of this new Government and will work with those who did not vote for the PL. There’s a lot of work to do he said. He mentioned the three laws which the PL must pass, including party financing, and the Whistleblowers act.

Dr Muscat spoke about the energy plan, stating that the new Government will begin working on this topic immediately. When asked about the result, he said that the people have given a clear message, adding that the PL cannot be a Government like any other. There will not be a blue or red flag, but rather the flag of Malta. He said that the PL will not tolerate any law breaking.

Dr Muscat mentioned that after Parliament is convened in the coming months, he will commence to form Cabinet. There are new dynamics, he said, including the leadership of the European Union adding that the PL will show its initiative in this regard in the coming days. “theres a lot of work but we have a good idea of the position of Government”.

Dr Muscat said that deep down, the people saw the manifestos and plans, compared them and decided to move away from the politics of the past. “We will carefully keep this in mind”. The Prime Minister elect stated that the PL must not cut off from the people, therefore the PL will not have a chance to bask in the victory.
