We have cast off the chains of our ancestors - Joseph Muscat
Maltese people are of the same blood and will be united under the Labour movement, Labour Leader Joseph Muscat announced during a mass meeting in Naxxar, explaining that the people have cast off the chains of their ancestors.
The first major topic covered in this political activity was corruption, which "has resulted in the theft of taxpayer funds must come to an abrupt end", Labour Leader Joseph Muscat announced, adding that there are people who received €1 million in commissions or are still receiving commissions from oil procurement. “They must pay for their crimes”.
The PN have had documents regarding the oil procurement case for over two years, Dr Muscat announced. How is it possible that the Minister for Finance, the Economy and Investment Tonio Fenech didn’t know about this scandal, he asked. The PN chose not to take any action to tackle the problem but instead chose to allow it to continue he stated. Referring to recent media revelations of Ministers receiving gifts, Joseph Muscat asked what these gifts were, also calling on the PN to unveil who these Ministers are. “We must clean up this mess”, he announced, adding that the PL have pledged to serve the people and unveil this corruption. “20 years are enough!” he said
The PL Leader spoke of the negative tactics the PN were using, arguing that this is due to a lack of proposals from Lawrence Gonzi. He reiterated his pledge to hold a positive campaign, adding that the PL movement will not fall to the PN’s, level but rather energise itself from the passion for change called for by the people. He envisaged a positive Government who will work with all people, regardless of political affiliation. The PN used to claim that the Labour Party had no proposals, he said, adding that now the PN said that the PL have too many proposals. “Our proposals are costed,” he explained, describing them as being aimed at further strengthening the economy, promising to attempt to tackle bureaucracy and produce enough jobs for everyone willing to work. He described the movement as one which unites employers and employees.
The Opposition Leader spoke of the party’s energy roadmap, which clearly defines how and by how much energy tariffs will reduce by over the coming years. He expressed the dreams of parents, for their children to succeed and advance through education. He announced that the middle class must be strengthened.
Dr Muscat thanked the people of Malta for joining the PL movement insisting that nobody has a monopoly on what is considered to be right. He announced that every vote would count in bringing about this “much needed change”. The country belongs to everyone, not just a few people, the Opposition Leader reiterated. “We are all part of the same family”.
Unity
Dr Muscat spoke of the 21st September avenue, where the meeting was held, stating that the road represents how Malta came together. He spoke of those who still think in the past, seeing people as PN or PL, calling upon them to stand up and take note that Malta is changing. “The people have risen up and shown that a time for change has come. My dream is that Independence Day and Republic Day will be celebrated by all people on the island”. He described how trying to find differences between the Maltese people rather than trying to unite them doesn’t make sense, further adding that the Labour movement is a historical moment, made from people who chose to break the chains which held back the older generations.
Joseph Muscat will win
Joseph Muscat will win the election, President of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Hannes Swoboda announced whilst addressing mass meeting.
After the PL win the election, the storm which has encompassed Malta over the past five years will end and the enemies of Labour will lose, Hannes Swoboda stated. “Why does Malta not utilise gas energy? Why is energy so expensive?” he asked, adding that the Labour Party will bring Malta a strong healthcare system.
The Socialists and Democrats all over Europe are fighting for the youths of the continent, the EU group President said. The PN rejected the youth guarantee he said, which is imperative for youth’s all over Malta he continued. “The PL is part of the European socialist family,” he said, adding that the European socialists will stick together. Socialists won elections in France and Romania he explained, concluding that Malta will be the next victory for socialism in Europe.
