Art Discussion Group Collective Art Exhibition May– June 2014
The Art Discussion Group has organized a Collective Art Exhibition, May-June 2014 on a national level, an event that commemorates and celebrates the Group's 27 years (1987-2014) active service in the sphere of art and its 120th ‘Meeting Artist’ in April this year. The exhibition was inaugurated by Paul Asciak its founder and honorary president for life at Cavalieri Art Hotel on Thursday 2nd May 2014 while E. V. Borg, actual chairman of ADG introduced the event. The exhibition is open to the public from the 3rd of May to the 25th of June 2014.
In all 70 artists are participating in four sections: painting, sculpture, ceramics and photography with 140 works in varied media. 40 artist-painters present work in graphics, charcoal, pen & ink, soft pastel, oil, acrylic and mixed media. 10 sculptors exhibit works in carved wood, bronze, terracotta, and stone. 8 ceramists exhibit works in stoneware, porcelain and terracotta, while one artist presents large panels in mosaics and another works in fused glass. The exhibition includes the work of 10 photographers. The exhibition represents the actual state of the visual art in Malta in 2014 by Maltese, Gozitan and a sprinkling of foreign artists living among us.
The artists were free to express themselves in whatever subject they deemed fit whether abstract or figurative, academic or free expression. The most common subject attempted is landscape, seascape, streetscape and urban skyline, the nude, portrait and ‘centro storico’ of village cores. Young artists are exhibiting shoulder to shoulder with established and mature artists and our best talent is represented in every section. It is a show of solidarity and union.
For the occasion ADG has published a 152 page catalogue that documents all the exhibits (140) in the exhibition and with a short introduction and history of ADG and a pictorial record from its archives that will serve as Melitensia: an accurate picture and spectrum of the visual arts in Malta today.
A limited and numbered hard bound edition (150) of the book/catalogue that doubles as a directory, a volume in full colour, was launched during the inauguration and is available for all participating artists and the public at large. A soft bound copy is also available. Enquires should be sent to;firstname.lastname@example.org.
