Grand Anniversary Concert
This year happens to be the 200th year from the birth of Adolf Sax, the inventor of the popular wind instrument, the saxophone. Hence, it was only logical to include this anniversary with ours, giving us the opportunity to join world-wide celebrations.
It was agreed that concert will feature music from the 19th century, the period when the saxophone was being invented. This led us to much acclaimed composers like Mussorgsky, Holtz, Verdi and Maltese composer Pace. It was also fitting to include a more modern composition featuring the saxophone as a virtuosic soloist. Italian Paris-based saxophonist Antonino Mollica will be the guest soloist for Smith’s Fantasia for Alto Saxophone. Another attraction to this concert will be the digital artistic displays that will accompany Pictures at an Exhibition, designed by the upcoming digital designer Robert Spiteri. The band will be under the direction of Mro. Roderick Bugeja, the band’s resident conductor for the last 14 years.
The concert will take place at Pinto Wharf Quay 1 /2, Valletta Waterfront. 7 Euro tickets can be purchased from the society’s bar, from St James Cavalier box office and from the St James Cavalier website as from Friday 11 April 2014. Tickets may also be booked by phone from St James Cavalier on 21223200.
Transport will be provided from Naxxar (Near local Council) to the Venue and back. Tickets from the society's bar.
