Heritage Malta launching two exhibitions
Heritage Malta will be launching two different exhibitions during this year’s Notte Bianca on October 5.
The exhibitions entitled “Maltese Landscape” will be held at the Auberge d’Italie in Merchant Street and will run until October 15. Maltese landscapes have been a constant source of inspiration for artists to copy and interpret. They have been and are still popular with visitors to the islands who look for mementoes to take home with them. Maltese landscapes have been eagerly collected as evidence of a nostalgic past, oftentimes lost.
This will be the first in a series of exhibitions aimed at revisiting well-known themes in Maltese art history presented by Heritage Malta’s National Museum of Fine Arts.. The ArtiMalta series, as the sequence of exhibitions shall be known, will showcase works by Maltese artists in response to a theme or topic with the first on Maltese Landscape. The exhibition shall present a broad overview of the latest in Maltese landscapes and the varied ways, styles and media through which landscape inspires Maltese artists.
The second exhibition under the title “Mixja ta’ Poplu” will take visitors on a journey along the milestones marking the most significant eras and episodes in the history of the nation including Independence Day, Freedom Day and Malta’s accession to the EU by means of a number of projections and artefacts related to the particular era or event.
“Mixja ta’ Poplu” will be held in the basement of Auberge du Castille and will remain open for the month of October. Those visiting the exhibition during Notte Bianca will have the opportunity to benefit from a special offer on the book “Roots of a nation”. The publication will be sold at €5 instead of the normal price of €12.
