Hugo Boss skipper to participate in 2013 Middle Sea Race
Hugo Boss skipper, Alex Thomson, will be participating in the upcoming edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race with his 60-foot monohull racing yacht “HUGO BOSS Imoca 60”. The skipper and his racing boat will be sailing out of Malta’s Grand Harbour on October 19 at 11:00h.
The participation of Mr Thomson was officially announced by Hugo Boss local retail partner VF Group of Companies in the presence of Josef Formosa Gauci, Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Tourism Authority, Architect Godwin Zammit, Commodore of the Royal Malta Yacht Club and Vincent Farrugia, Chairman of the VF Group of Companies.
Michelle Farrugia, Managing Director of the VF Group of Companies, said that it is with great pleasure that skipper Alex Thomson has accepted the invitation to participate in the 2013 Rolex Middle Sea Race. “On behalf of the VF Group of Companies and Hugo Boss, I look forward to welcoming the Alex Thomson Racing Crew and the HUGO BOSS Imoca 60 yacht to Malta. It is an honour for us and all Maltese sailing enthusiasts to have Alex compete in Malta’s most prestigious sporting event.”
Yachtsman Alex Thomson recently participated in the prestigious and challenging 2012 / 2013 Vendée Globe race, which he completed after 80 days 19 hours 23 minutes and 43 seconds at sea. He came in third – a phenomenal victory, as the race is one of the toughest races in sailing.
Hugo Boss has been actively sponsoring Alex Thomson Racing since 2003 and is looking back on a decade-long successful partnership in sailing. The boat also acts as a brand ambassador, not only strengthening the perceived association between Hugo Boss and sailing, but also promoting the company's core brand BOSS and the underlying brand spirit of modernity, elegance and confidence.
