Kinemastik International Short Film Festival 2013
One of Malta’s most anticipated summer events, Kinemastik International Short Film Festival (KISFF) prepares to announce its 2013 programme. Now in its 9th year, KISFF presents several screenings in Valletta and Vittoriosa, commencing on Sunday, 21st July, ending Saturday 27th July.
This year KISFF has new venues and a giant screen in Valletta’s St Lazarus Curtain, nested at the Grand Harbour. We’ll make that little village our own for two nights, setting off the local and international short films to compete for the highly sought after Jury prize, the Kinemastik Golden Dot. The selection process is currently underway as hundreds of entries pour in from around the globe and the complete programme will be announced very soon.
At the same time, and for the 4th year running, KISFF also presents its popular Children’s film festival. This wild audience will scream out their vote for their favourite film. The programme is curated by Jon Banthorpe and presented by 6 year old Master of Ceremonies, Zen Kono. “Little Rock People” festival will take place at the Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa on 21st July at 18:00h.
On Tuesday, 23rd July 2013, Kinemastik prepares a warm up for the festival, a 45 minutes film by Robert Rubbish – One Eyed Man in The Kingdom of The Blind that is a neo-noir psycho-geographical detective story set in Jersey and London. Robert Rubbish is a UK illustrator/filmmaker, one of the founding members of London art collective “Le Gun”. Screening will take place at the Café Riche, at Sally Port, Valletta at 21:00h.
A day later, on the 24th July 2013, a special focus at KISFF 2013 will be on the up-and-coming Argentinian filmmaker Eduardo Teddy Williams, who has received acclaim and numerous awards at the Cannes, Rome, and Buenos Aires film festivals. The venue chosen for the hazy and surreal style of Mr. Williams will be at Fish Market - Pixkerija, Valletta. Mr Williams will be there in person as a special guest of 9th KISFF.
Finally, on the 26th and 27th the highlight of 9th Kinemastik International Short Film Festival will take place at the Lazarus Curtain, Valletta, on the beach opposite the Mediterranean Conference Centre. The sea washing onto the shore will be designed by Sandra Banthorpe, making sure Kinemastik event looks tight as ever.
And for those who want to continue into the night, KISFF presents two music events at the end of each night at The Lazarus Curtain in Valletta, featuring 4 UK artists: Capitol K, SUBJECT DJs, Steph Von Reiswitz and Ali Tollervey.
