A seminar entitled ‘ New Media Literacy for Media Professionals ‘ will be held on Thursday 26th June at 2pm at St James Cavalier in Valletta.

The seminar will discuss the outcome of a two year project  that the Foundation for the Promotion of Social Inclusion,  better known as FOPSIM, participated in together with a consortium made up of the  School for Communication and Media (Slovakia),  together with Videovest(Romania) and the Media 21 Foundation (Bulgaria).

The main aim of the partnership was to nourish the quality of media and communication in the  European  public  sphere and  the strengthening of skills by established media and communication  professionals.

Throughout the meetings held in each country, many professionals both from traditional and new media came together and analysed how the media landscape is evolving. Students were also given the opportunity to participate in meetings held in their respective countries and also travel to meetings in partner countries.

This final meeting will address the achievements of this project whilst offering also a platform for discussion of how new media is affecting the journalistic profession, and the audience.

The meeting will be addressed by Maria Limongelli, Project manager together with Joyce Grech and Rosemarie Dorekens, both journalists who have researched different aspects of new media in their academic studies and also participated in the meetings held in Malta and overseas.

Journalists together with media contributors, academics and students are being invited to attend this seminar. The programme will consist of presentations together with discussion, networking, and Q&A. Refreshments will be served.

Entrance is free of charge, but booking is recommended.
