Oscar Wilde’s Salome in Gozo

Article By: news

Oscar Wilde’s 1871 tragedy ‘Salome’ was recently presented at the Cultural Centre at the Citadel in Gozo.

This one act play tells the biblical story of Salome, stepdaughter of the tetrarch Herod Antipas, who, to her stepfather’s dismay but to the delight of her mother Herodias, requests the head of Johanaan, John the Baptist, on a silver platter as a reward for dancing the dance of the seven veils.

Leading Maltese artists Mario Micallef, Larissa Bonaci, Nathalie Micallef and Alan Fenech formed the cast. Mr Micallef himself directed the play translated to Maltese by veteran Alfred Palma. The ‘Talenti’ production was under the auspicies of the Kumitat Festi Nazzjonali u Regjonali.
