Should You Delete Your EX from All Social Media?
Exes. Do you want him or her to disappear off the face of this earth? Or maybe just from your virtual world? Or do you still crave a little insight into the goings-on of their lives?
If you fall into the former category, Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites make it near impossible to discreetly but definitely delete them. Meanwhile, we’re all guilty of Facebook stalking (don’t deny it).
Striving to get to the bottom of the delete/don’t delete debacle, we asked our readers whether they would delete their ex…
Tina, 22, relationship status: in a relationship
“It’s already hard enough with the possibility of bumping into them at a bar or beach on our little island, but daily reminders that they’re ‘having a GREAT time out with the lads’ is shoot-me-now torture. DELETE.”
Matthew, 21, relationship status: in a relationship
“I’d rather know what she’s doing, than die of curiosity. Once you delete you can’t go back.”
Emmeline, 26, relationship status: in a relationship
“Delete. Delete. Delete. It helps a lot. But it’s definitely something hard to do.”
Kristina, 31, relationship status: single
“We tried to do the whole ‘let’s be friends’ thing, but as soon as I saw pictures of him being OVER friendly with another girl, that sentiment went out the window. It felt good to defriend him.”
Ella, 33, relationship status: engaged
“I think defriending an ex makes you seem childish and makes him think you’re affected. Be mature and tolerate him on your friend list and, if you must, hide him from popping up on your newsfeed. His online existence doesn’t really affect me anymore.”
Marc, 27, relationship status: single
“When my girlfriend and I broke up I was very tempted to wipe out all texts, emails, and numbers – and I did! But I didn’t delete her from Facebook and after a while I was glad I didn’t. Being able to casually send a birthday message is an easy way to avoid things staying bitter."
Thomas, 24, relationship status: single
“I needed a break after my relationship, so I deleted my ex after we broke up. But now we’re friends again, so we decided to add each other again. I guess it just takes time.”
Jennifer, 19, relationship status: single
"I’d do whatever it took to forget my ex and move on. If I felt I need to delete my ex, as opposed to staying up late and flicking through his profile pictures, I’d do it.”
