€800,000 Master It scholarship scheme extension
The Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo, and the Parliamentary Secretary for the EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds, Dr Ian Borg, today launched an extension of the Master It! scheme with an additional investment of €800,000.
During the first call of the scheme a record €2.7 million was invested in scholarships at master’s level. A record number of applications and recipients resulted from the government taking a more inclusive approach. Minister Bartolo said that having wider parameters allowed for people to return to their studies and improve their education. The Minister said that he was pleased to see a good mix of ages being awarded a Master It! scholarship in the first call. He also noted that a diverse mix of studies had been taken up, from ICT to the environment and life sciences.
Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Ian Borg said the decision to extend this EU funded initiative by an additional €800,000 followed the record take up and this brought the total amount invested to €3.5 million. He said that this showed the government’s commitment to make the best use of EU Funds, allocating funds to crucial sectors of the economy such as education.
