16,000 irregular immigrants in 10 years
A total of 16,341 irregular migrants arrived in Malta between 2002 and 2012, with 1,433 of these being minors under the age of 18.
The majority of these migrants were from Somalia.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said this in response to a parliamentary question by MP Helena Dalli.
Dr Dalli also asked how many foreigners were expected to be living in Malta by 2050, to which Dr Gonzi replied that there was no way of generating an official estimate in this regard.
