1800 kg of food destroyed by Environmental Directorate
During the previous months, the Environmental Health Directorate destroyed 1796.47 kg of foodstuffs and 984 litres of drinks amongst others, the Directorate announced.
The foodstuffs include 125 kilograms of meat and poultry products, bread, cheeselets, cheesecakes, and sultanas while 1122 pieces of plastic kitchenware were also destroyed.
Fourteen swimming pools were inspected during four audits carried out by the Health Inspectorate to verify compliance with Swimming Pools Regulations. This regulation specifies that all swimming pools with the exception of those situated at a single family residence need to register with this Directorate.
Furthermore, 348 samples of sea water were collected and submitted to the Public Health Laboratory to be analysed for microbiological parameters as stipulated by EU Directive 2006/7/EC.
12 adverts involving Tobacco products in breach of Tobacco (Smoking Control) Act was noticed and the respective advertiser was instructed to remove such advert while three adverts of tattoo equipment were also noted to be in contravention of the Control of Tattooing Act.
The Directorate also issued 471 improvement notices, 12 abatement notices and four undertakings, carried out 8 Legionella audits. A total of seven parcels were rejected out of 1864 while 485 notification or import declaration of food supplements were received.
