18,000 foreigners working in Malta
Around 18,000 foreigners are working in Malta and foreign workers are being employed in half of the new jobs which are being created, the Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo, said yesterday.
Minister Bartolo, who was addressing the first public consultation in the series Government that listens – Near you in the Cottonera, added that the Maltese lacked the necessary skills for the new jobs. Referring to the igaming industry, Minister Bartolo said that the Maltese are employed in three out of every 10 jobs.
The public discussion also touched upon the tablets pilot project, co-education, school truancy, vocational training and sport.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport, Stefan Buontempo, also participated in the consultation.
