2,727 students kick off the scholastic year in Gozo

This week, 2,727 students started attending classes in 11 primary schools and two secondary schools within Gozo College. Another 1,359 started school at one of the four primary schools and two secondary schools run by the church in Gozo. At the same time, 250 students are continuing their studies at the Sir MA Refalo Centre for Higher Studies, 320 are registered at the drama school, 436 will be attending music school and the Wistin Camilleri Centre for Arts and Crafts has already received 1,530 applications.

“Besides improving the buildings, today, the classrooms and laboratories in our school are equipped with interactive whiteboards, computers, and other technical equipment that facilitates teaching in a more interesting and innovative way,” said Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono on a visit to a primary school in Sannat.

This school also has a Special Unit that currently hosts students with special needs while also offering assistance to students who attend other schools within Gozo College. This school is considered to be a resource centre that is now equipped with technical and modern technology along with competent human resources that offer facilities and professional services to these students and their parents.

Minister Debono explained how the works that were being carried out in schools over the summer also included those related to the Alter Aqua prject being coordinated by the Global Water Partnership together with the Ministry for Gozo as part of the Eco-Gozo project. Through this project, new reservoirs for rainwater storage were built in government schools while old reservoirs were refurbished.
