AD calls for appointment of consensus commissioner
Prof. Arnold Cassola, AD Spokesperson on EU an International Affairs, said: "The Dalli affair could have political repercussions on Malta's credibility if the Nationalist and Labour parties (PN and PL) insist on appointing their own partisan commissioner. It is important that the Maltese commissioner to be named in a few days' time is a capable and consensus candidate that represents the interests of the whole country and is not a divisive figure. Serious countries appoint consensus commissioners who ensure continuity. PN and PL simply cannot risk Malta's credibility for their partisan and egoistic needs. Dr Gonzi and Dr Muscat must meet quickly to agree on a new commissioner that will have Malta's interests at heart, and not parochial party interests".
"Alternattiva Demokratika offers to assist as mediator in proposals for EU commissioner," added Michael Briguglio, AD chairperson.
