Andy Murray snubbed ; Wimbledon winner will not be knighted
According to sources, Andy Murray, will not be on the list for Knighthood at the New Years Honours. Sources also called the list “boring” and “stuffy” and say that Murray is a victim to people who decided to enforce the rules this year.
Andy Murray, the winner of the Wimbledon Cup this year and also the receiver of an OBE honour recognising his Olympic and US Open triumphs a year earlier, was considered a sure shoe-in for Knighthood in talks by 10, Downing Street.
But the Main Honours Committee have decided that it’s too early for him to receive another award so soon after an OBE which is normally awarded for achievements recognised nationally.
There have been situations where other celebrities have refused other awards to be given knighthood straight away, but Murray didn’t and will now have to wait at least 2 years for this ultimate prestigious prize.
