Labour won’t work because it brings about unemployment and it will cast Malta back 30 years, the Nationalist Party (PN) said in a statement.

It said that Karmenu Vella, appointed by Joseph Muscat to write him an electoral programme, is insisting that Labour will be ready to open again the negotiations with the European Union.

As reported in l-orizzont on Monday, August 13, Karmenu Vella said that “we need to realise that the agreement we have with the European Union is not a contract that cannot be changed, but is altered according to the circumstances.” The PN said that this same declaration was made by Joseph Muscat a few days before the past general election as reported by The Sunday Times on February 24, 2008, with the title ‘EU renegotiation possible’.

According to the statement, even the former Labour Party leader Alfred Sant, on the eve of the general election, had come to the conclusion that a Labour government would open negotiations with the European Union.

The PN said the Labour Partyt is anchored to the outdated policies of the past and wants to implement them. “If they’re in power, Joseph Muscat and Karmenu Vella will bring about more unemployment,” the statement concluded.
