Updated: Baby delivered after fatal accident in NY dies
The baby who was delivered after an accident that claimed the lives of his parents, has died in hospital. Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, were traveling in a taxi on their way to hospital when they were involved in a fatal accident. Both were pronounced dead on the spot but the premature infant was delivered alive via a caesarean section.
The crash happened just after midnight close to the victim’s home in Brooklyn, New York. The couple were on the way to hospital after Mrs Glauber, who was seven months pregnant, was feeling unwell. The cause of the crash is being investigated by the police, who are also looking for the driver of the other car and a passenger in the same car, who fled the scene.
The Glaubers were members of Brooklyn’s ultra-orthodox Jewish community, which is the largest in the world outside Israel. Community Leader Rabbi Bernard Freilich told foreign media that “it is a terrible, terrible tragedy… they were going for their first child. There are no words. I don’t even know what to say.”
