The UK has been hit by widespread flooding, with some people believing that the worst has yet to come.

People have been forced out of their homes in droves. The worst hit areas are South West England, Wales and North East Scotland, although the Midlands is also on high alert.

Christmas preparations have been put on hold as many people survey the damage to their homes as flood warnings remain in place.

Many people are being forced to spend Christman in temporary accommodation in areas less affected by the torrential downpour.

The Environment Agency still has one severe flood warning - meaning there is "danger to life" - in west Cornwall, after heavy rainfall overnight. There are currently 160 flood warnings, urging people to take immediate action, and 286 flood alerts.
