Considerable Increase in March 2014 Tourist Arrivals
Malta has registered an increase of 7.3% in the number of tourist arrivals in March this year compared to the corresponding month last year.
The Minister for Tourism, Dr Edward Zammit Lewis welcomed such an increase in the number of tourists visiting the Maltese Islands. From the numbers indicated by the National Statistical Office, it has been estimated that there has been quite an increase in the tourist inbound carried out for both holiday purpose and business visits.
Compared to March last year, we see that the estimated number of visitors to Malta is 97,800, where about 74,445 visits where due to holiday purpose and 12,525 were for business purposes. Furthermore, we have seen an increase in tourists from Non-EU countries, where the increase went up to 26.6%. Additionally, as indicated in the same report, the estimated number of tourists visiting our country in the first quarter has amounted to 232,624 visits, with an increase of 7.0% over last year.
The Minister for Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis reiterates his commitment to keep up with such positive results in this sector for our country, focusing more on Non-EU markets and particular niche markets.
