Reports issued by the European Union continue to show that the cost of living in Malta is among the highest in the EU, Labour Party (PL) Spokesperson for Consumer Rights, Communication and Information Technology Michael Farrugia said today.

“The latest reports reveal that the cost of living in our country is 1.5 times higher than the average among the EU countries. The same report shows that this high cost of living is affecting the most essential items,” Dr Farrugia explained.

PL said that in the meantime, GonziPN is saying that it wants to investigate how this could be.

“It would be better if GonziPN instead were to investigate what steps it will take to mitigate the cost of living that are causing the Maltese and Gozitans to suffer as a result of decisions the party itself made,” Dr Farrugia noted.

“Morevover, GonziPN is not sufficiently compensating Maltese and Gozitan families. Today, the money in families’ pockets continues to shrink in amount,” the PL spokesperson concluded.
