The Civil Court has awarded over €17,000 in compensation for damages who suffered permanent scarring in his face after being hit with a glass by his cousin.

The incident occurred in September 2, 2002, in Paceville when Paul Abela, who was 17 at the time, brought his cousin Paul Inguanez the wrong drink. The accused took offence and slammed the glass against the victim’s neck after a verbal argument. The cousins’ friends stopped the accused from further assaulting the victim.

Paul Abela  had to have stitches applied to his face and spent considerable time under medical care still cannot sleep on the scarred part of his face.

His wounds have caused a 5% permanent disability, lead to occasional pain and limits his physical ability to ride horses which is his hobby. When the victim was examined by court experts, he was found to have a 6 cm permanent scar in his left ear; however it had no effect on his balance or hearing.
