Crane boom collapses blocking City Gate
An investigation is being conducted after a crane boom collapsed whilst hauling concrete at the City Gate.
The accident happened around 10:45 this morning and the cause is not yet known. No injury or damage was caused as a consequence of the accident apart from the damage suffered by the crane boom.
The crane’s damaged boom was being dismantled this afternoon because it is considered unsafe to be left in its current position due to the weather report.
City Gate entrance has been temporarily closed off for the general public until the boom is removed. An alternative pedestrian route was provided through the Central Bank annex via Castille.
It is expected that access to City Gate will be reinstated by late evening.
