Desira appeals from 18 year jail term
The man sentenced for 18 years imprisonment, who is at the centre of Judge Pace’s case, Darren Desira, has today filed an appeal from his jail term.
Defence counsel, Gianella de Marco held that the appeal did not follow the allegations about trading in influence against Judge Pace but had been prepared before and was based on the fact that the court sentence delivered in similar cases is less than that given to Desira.
Mr Justice Lawrence Quintano had jailed Darren Desira for 18 years and fined him €50,000 after the accused admitted to being involved in the importation of drugs.
The Prosecution in the case of Judge Pace are saying that pressure was put on Judge Pace to influence the other judge to lengthen Desira’s jail term.
