Drug cultivator jailed for eight years
A drug addict caught cultivating 15 cannabis plants was jailed for eight years after admitting to charges.
John Polidano, 48 from Birzebbuġa, pleaded guilty to cultivating the plants near his home, possessing the drug in circumstances which denote that it was not for his exclusive use, and possessing cannabis resin and heroin.
The discovery of the plants was made after days of investigation by the drug squad. The find came about in August of 2009, with Mr Polidano also being fined the sum of around €2,400.
The police had raided Mr Polidano’s residence at the time, where they also found a bag with brown substance, which a court expert found to be heroin. The amount of heroin found was that of 0.88 grams, with 28% purity.
