Dumping ground fire causes public nuisance
The Civil Protection Department was called to put out a fire after a heap of rubbish was set alight in an empty field between Zabbar and Birgu.
The field has become a dumping ground for unwanted items, and a painful eyesore to residents of the surrounding areas.
A member of the Civil Protection Department told di-ve.com that although the fire was started by the owners of the field, since they had been called by members of the public, they were duty-bound to put the flames out.
However, given the kind of items that were dumped in the field, including old mattresses and a refrigerator, the fire could have posed a serious danger and a health risk, as well as an annoyance to locals.
