Former Sliema Mayor interdicted
The Courts have imposed perpetual interdiction over former Sliema Mayor Nikki Dimech together with a one year jail term after finding him guilty of attempted bribery but acquitted him of threatening a police inspector.
Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit stated that due to being interdicted, Nikki Dimech is now unable to sign any documentation related to his accountancy profession. The court also noted how the accused had alleged that the Police had mistreated him during the course of the investigations. These allegations were proven to be false.
The former Sliema mayor has appealed from the sentence.
