PN MP, Franco Debono, who took a hard stand against his party in government since January, actually voted for the head of the PN, Lawrence Gonzi, during the leadership contest held in February.

Speaking on television, Dr Debono said that he is so loyal to Dr Gonzi that he had to vote for him during the leadership contest for which Dr Gonzi was the only contestant.

Referring to the forthcoming elections for a deputy PN leader, Dr Debono said that this was a golden opportunity for the PN to regenerate itself.

Asked whether he was considering contesting for the deputy leader post, Dr Debono said that he had no intention of contesting.

Dr Debono was banned by the PN Executive Committee from contesting the general elections.
