Frank Sammut starts proceedings to stay silent before PAC
Frank Sammut, who in the past served as a consultation to Enemalta Corporation’s Chairman, has started proceedings before the Civil Court to refrain from answering questions before the Public Accounts Committee.
The PAC, which is examining the report by the National Auditor on oil procurement by Enemalta, was this evening presented with a copy of the application by Mr Sammut lawyer Dr Joe Giglio who said that at this stage the outcome of the court would be awaited. Dr Giglio added that the right to remain silent was a Constitutional right.
The Speaker last month ruled that Mr Sammut and former Enemalta Chairman Tancred Tabone should appear before the PAC but may refrain from answering questions which could incriminate them. The ruling adds that questions that are unanswered should be referred to the Speaker.
