George Farrugia’s brothers are being investigated by the Police in the wake of allegations that ‘gifts’ were allegedly passed on to politicians, di-ve.com has learnt.

Mr Farrugia turned state informer through a presidential pardon to provide information on persons involved in the cash-for-oil scandal in the procurement of oil for Enemalta.

The sources told di-ve.com that the Police are investigating the allegation that a ‘gift’ was passed to a politician and if this could have been handed over by one of the Farrugia brothers and not necessarily George Farrugia himself.

At the time of the alleged oil procurement scandal, the Farrugia brothers were business partners with George Farrugia. Nonetheless, their involvement in the business remains unknown until now, sources close to the investigated case said.

When the information concerning ‘gifts’ was brought to light, statements issued by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Communications stated that the Minister never spoke to or received any gifts from George Farrugia. Doubts are being raised on whether any of the Farrugia brothers could have been the person

Sources also told di-ve.com that the Farrugia brothers, represented by lawyers Manuel Mallia and David Farrugia Sacco, have already been approached by an investigation officer.

The source also confirmed that George Farrugia has deposited the sum of €250,000 towards the Government of Malta as laid in the terms of the Presidential pardon.
